Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (28-27-6-4, 66 pts.) took three of six points last week including a 4-3 win over the Eastern Conference leading Providence Bruins on Friday night. The B-Sens took Albany into overtime the following night to earn their third point. Binghamton currently sits six points out of the fourth playoff position in the East Division.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5th vs. ALBANY (1-4 L): Center Justin Mapletoft buried his 14th marker of the season to stake Binghamton to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. The River Rats would rattle off four unanswered goals while netminder Michael Leighton stopped 28 of 29 shots, including 14 in the second stanza, to give the River Rats a 4-1 win at the Arena.

FRIDAY, MARCH 7th @ PROVIDENCE (4-3 W): The B-Sens converted on three of four shootout attempts to secure a 4-3 win over the Bruins. Defenseman Lawrence Nycholat buried a regulation marker and followed with the game-winning shootout tally for Binghamton. Fellow blueliner Matt Carkner had two assists on the night. Rookie Jim McKenzie netted his first AHL marker on Binghamton's first goal of the night. Alexander Nikulin turned in a two-point night (1+1=2).

SATURDAY, MARCH 8th @ ALBANY (Glens Falls) (1-2 OTL): Justin Mapletoft scored the lone goal for the B-Sens, taking a feed from Lawrence Nycholat and beating netminder Michael Leighton midway through the opening period. Jeff Glass made 32 saves in the losing effort. The B-Sens are 1-5-1-0 against the River Rats this season.

THIS WEEK: The B-Sens start a busy week in Bridgeport on Wednesday night before they play the three other New York teams this weekend. The Sound Tigers are three points ahead of Binghamton in the East standings. Albany visits the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night for the last time this season. The B-Sens return on Saturday night to host the Rochester Americans. The B-Sens are a perfect 5-0-0-0 this season against the Amerks. A Sunday matinee at Syracuse wraps up the weekend.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12th @ BRIDGEPORT (7:30): The B-Sens have won two of their last three games against the Sound Tigers. Center Josh Hennessy is averaging an assist per game against Bridgeport, with seven helpers in as many games. Rookie Ilya Zubov has six points (3+3=6) against the Sound Tigers. Netminder Jeff Glass is a perfect 3-0-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against-average and a 0.962 save percentage against Bridgeport in 07-08. The Sound Tigers are still without the services of leading scorer Jeff Tambellini (recall - N.Y. Islanders). In his absence, Ben Walter (16+31=47) and Steve Regier (19+21=40) lead the attack for Bridgeport.

FRIDAY, MARCH 14th vs. ALBANY (7:05): The B-Sens have struggled against the River Rats this season, notching only one win to date. Scoring on netminder Michael Leighton has been difficult as the B-Sens are averaging just over one goal per game this season against Albany. Binghamton only victory came via a shootout on Feb. 13 in Albany. Niko Dimitrakos buried the shootout winner to secure a 3-2 win for the B-Sens. Center Jamie Johnson has 50 points (17+33=50) for the River Rats.

SATURDAY, MARCH 15th vs. ROCHESTER (7:05): The B-Sens look to continue their dominance over the Amerks on Saturday at the Arena. Brian Elliott made 37 saves to secure a 4-0 shutout win over the Amerks on Feb. 22. Denis Hamel and Justin Mapletoft each had two points (1+1=2) in the victory. Defenseman Lawrence Nycholat has eight points (2+6=8) against the Amerks this season. Josh Hennessy buried four markers in five games against the Amerks in 07-08.

SUNDAY, MARCH 16th @ SYRACUSE (3:00): Binghamton plays the final four games against Syracuse this season at OnCenter. The Crunch handed the B-Sens a 4-1 defeat in the teams last meeting on Feb. 15. Rookie Shawn Weller turned in a four-point performance in the B-Sens 6-3 win on Jan. 18. Denis Hamel buried two goals in that same game, while Alexander Nikulin had three helpers. Syracuse has collected points in nine straight games and is 6-1-0-3 in the last ten games.
