Iowa Chops News Release
Des Moines, IA- The Iowa Stars and Wells Fargo Arena are getting set for Pink in the Rink on Saturday, March 15th when the Stars take on the Quad City Flames at 7:07 PM. In anticipation of the event pink ice will be installed at Wells Fargo Arena beginning Wednesday, March 12 at 8:00 AM. The building crew will also install pink lights that will illuminate the upper dome of Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday as well. Pink in the Rink is a special event in which proceeds will benefit the John Stoddard Cancer Center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
In addition to pink ice the Stars players will wear special pink and black jerseys that will be auctioned off their backs live on the ice following the night's matchup. One Iowa Stars rookie will dye his hair pink for the night as well! Fans have been voting at the previous three games by making contributions to their favorite rookies' jar. The player whose jar contains the most money will have his hair dyed pink for Saturday night's game. The money contributed will go to the John Stoddard Breast Cancer Care Coordinator Program. Tuesday night's game versus the Lake Erie Monsters will be the last chance for fans to vote at the game. Currently rookie forward Richard Clune leads the pack by just $1.40!
A silent auction featuring all sports memorabilia will take place on the concourse before and during the game. Items such as a Peyton Manning autographed jersey, a Kurt Warner autographed football, a Zach Johnson autographed 8x10 photo and a Brett Favre autographed jersey will be available for fans to bid on.*
Fans in attendance for Pink in the Rink will receive pink pen lights courtesy of John Stoddard to be used during a special intermission ceremony. Fans will also be given mammogram reminder cards to mail to their loved ones in order to promote breast cancer awareness.
KIOA Chuck-A-Puck is a second intermission tradition at the Iowa Stars games and on Saturday, March 15th the prizes and anticipation will be bigger and better than ever! For this one time event the Chuck-A-Puck prizes are super-sized and the price per puck will increase by $1. Prizes include the grand prize of a team autographed commemorative Pink in the Rink jersey, the same ones the players will be wearing for the game! The side prizes each include suite tickets for upcoming events at Wells Fargo Arena along with gift certificates to local restaurants.
The Stars take on the Lake Erie Monster in the teams' first meeting since a 3-2 loss at Wells Fargo Arena on Oct. 27. The Stars swept two games in Cleveland, 4-2 and 6-2, on October 16 and 17 and thus, lead the season series with a 2-1 record. The Stars are playing their first game on home ice since Feb. 22 and are coming home after going 3-2-1-0 on their recently completed season-high six-game road trip.
