Admirals to Honor Trainer Doug Agnew Friday Evening
January 17, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 overtime loss to the Iowa Stars last Friday, January 11th was just one in the 80 regular season games that the team will play this year. But for Doug Agnew the game held special significance in an already distinguished career as it marked the Admirals' head athletic trainer's 1,500th game worked behind the team's bench.
The Admirals will honor Agnew prior to their 7:00 pm game with the Manchester Monarchs on Friday, January 18th at the Bradley Center.
Agnew began his career in Milwaukee in the 1990-91 season when he was assigned to work for the Admirals by the Vancouver Canucks, when Vancouver was the Ads parent club. Mike Murphy was the team's head coach that season and they finished the year with a 36-39-0-7 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Peoria. Nineteen years, ten coaches, an affiliation change, a Calder Cup Championship, and some 1,500 games later the Sheridan College alum is still a fixture behind the Admirals bench.
As the team's trainer Agnew plays a pivotal role in keeping the players in top physical condition throughout the season. He is responsible for attending to injured players, supervising their rehabilitation, and developing a physical conditioning program for the team. In addition he serves as the organization's liaison with all medical and dental personnel.
