Rivermen Prepare for Pair Against Moose
January 17, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen returns to the ice tonight on a seven-game win streak as they face off with the Manitoba Moose at the MTS Center at 7:30 pm.
Tonight's game marks the first time the two clubs have faced off this season, with each coming in heading in opposite directions. Peoria has started January 7-0-1-0 and are climbing up the West Division standings, heading into tonight's action in third place with 51 points. The team's sparkling 13-3-2-1 mark on the road places them tied for third in the AHL for wins away from home.
"Our whole team has come together, and we're finally starting to see the chemistry we've been working to develop," said All-Star defenseman Micki DuPont. "We're starting to score the goals that we felt we should have been scoring all along."
Meanwhile, Manitoba lost all four games on a recent road trip to Texas where it faced both Houston and San Antonio twice. They do return home to a building where they've won five straight and have some of the most boisterous fans in the AHL. Despite having nine players out of the lineup either due to injury or recall, the Moose are still second in the North Division with 45 points and a 21-6-2-1 record.
"We know Manitoba has good outside speed," said Rivermen head coach Dave Baseggio. "It's going to be important to neutralize that aspect of their game. They've also gotten solid goaltending and we're going to have to put a lot of bodies in front of the net and get the shots through."
The two teams will skate tonight and tomorrow night in the first two of a four-game season series. After that the Rivermen head to Milwaukee for a 1 pm Sunday matinee game against the Admirals to round out the current road swing. Peoria's next home game is on Nequik 2-for-Tuesday Night against the San Antonio Rampage at 7 pm.
