Connecticut Whale News Release

HARTFORD, January 17, 2008: The Hartford Wolf Pack welcome Connecticut-raised former longtime NHL star Kevin Dineen and his Portland Pirates to the XL Center this Saturday night, January 19th, in a battle of two teams that stand only one point apart in the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division. Faceoff time as usual is 7:00.

The third-place Wolf Pack won their fourth straight game last night, getting the second half of their season off to a positive start with a 5-2 home-ice victory over the Worcester Sharks. At 25-12-0-4 for 54 points, the Wolf Pack trail Head Coach Dineen and the second-place Pirates by a single standings point. Portland has registered at least a standings point in 12 of its last 13 games (9-1-1-2), after a 2-1 shootout loss at Binghamton last night, and carries an overall record of 25-13-2-3 for 55 points, eight points behind the league-leading Providence Bruins in the Atlantic.

The Wolf Pack has posted a 2-1-0-1 record in the season series vs. the Pirates thus far, but Dineen's crew captured two points out of the XL Center in the last meeting between the two clubs, a 3-2 shootout verdict in favor of Portland on January 2nd.

Prior to their battle with the Pirates, the Wolf Pack will travel to Springfield tomorrow night, Friday, January 18th, to take on their I-91 rivals the Falcons. That game faces off at 7:30.
