Admirals Power Past Sound Tigers 5-2

NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 14, 2011) ‚¬" Paul Szczechura notched two of Norfolk's three power play goals and Cedrick Desjardins stopped 26 shots as the Admirals defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 5-2 at Scope Arena in Norfolk on Friday night. Norfolk improves to 20-10-7=2D2. The Sound Tigers fall to .500 at 18-18-3-2.

Blair Jones gave Norfolk the lead just 3:03 into the game. Jones took a feed from Paul Szczechura through the slot, and Jones lifted the puck over Mikko Koskinen's glove from the right circle to give the Admirals the early 1-0 advantage.

The Sound Tigers knotted the score with 4:15 left in the first period. Brandon Svendsen fought to grab the puck behind the Norfolk net and slid the puck to Brett Motherwell. Motherwell took a moment to settle the puck, then fired as he was falling down over the shoulder of Cedrick Desjardins for his second goal of the season to tie the game at one heading to the middle frame.

Norfolk took the lead again at 6:42 of the second period via the power play. Paul Szczechura held the puck in the slot and snapped it past Koskinen to give the Admirals at 2-1 lead. Micheal Haley tied the game at two with his own power play goal from the slot midway through the period, but Norfolk would respond with another goal on the man-advantage. Johan Harju's centering feed was deflected by Koskinen into the slot, but right onto the stick of Mike Angelidis who knocked it past the Sound Tigers netminder as Norfolk retook the lead 3-2 with 2:53 left in the second period.

The score remained that way until the 14:05 mark of the third when Norfolk would add some insurance. Szczechura netted his second power play goal of the night and when he batted a rebound from mid-air past Koskinen to increase the lead to two. Tim Marks deflected Troy Milam's shot from the point through Koskinen with 2:19 left in regulation to round out the scoring, and Norfolk came away with a 5-2 win over the Sound Tigers.

Mikko Koskinen made 30 saves in the losing effort for the Sound Tigers. Cedrick Desjardins made 26 saves to earn the win.

The Sound Tigers and Admirals will close out the two-game set tomorrow evening at Scope Arena at 7:15 p.m.
