Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY'S Zach Miskovic scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the final minute of the first period Friday night, and goaltender Dany Sabourin would do the rest in a 3-0 win over Adirondack at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The win, HERSHEY'S 23rd of the season, came on a night when all three teams ahead of the Chocolate and White in the East Division standings posted victories.
Miskovic fired a shot from the right point and scored his sixth goal of the season at 19:25 of the first period, giving the BEARS a 1-0 lead at first intermission. His six goals in 2010-11 ties his goal production from his rookie season a year ago. Brian Willsie would give the Chocolate and White a little breathing room at 4:22 of the second period, when he tapped home a pass to the top of the crease from Kyle Greentree and Steve Pinizzotto. With the score 2-0 in the closing moments, Pinizzotto skated up the right wing and put home an empty-net goal at 19:45 to seal Adirondack's fate Friday. Pinizzotto's goal was his ninth of the season, and the BEARS won by a 3-0 final. Michael Leighton, who played in 14 games last spring for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs, took the loss Friday and made 25 saves.
Defenseman Patrick Wellar was injured late in the second period when he took a puck to the mouth. He will be reevaluated Saturday by team dentists after losing several teeth.
BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game:
1. Dany Sabourin (Second road shutout of 2010-11)
2. Zach Miskovic (Scored first period game-winner)
3. Brian Willsie (Second period goal provided insurance)
Notes: Francois Bouchard missed Friday's game in Adirondack due to illness, while Johann Kroll missed the game as a healthy scratch. Lawrence Nycholat is day-to-day with a reoccurring upper body injury. Nycholat left Thursday's skate early at Giant Center and did not accompany the team to Glens Falls. The BEARS return home on Saturday to face the Lake Erie Monsters at Giant Center. As of Friday afternoon, a very limited number of single tickets remained for the game. For the latest ticket information, call the Giant Center box office on Saturday at (717) 534-3911. The BEARS have not played at home since January 2, but will play four of its next six along HERSHEYPARK Drive leading up to the All-Star break. Sunday's game at Binghamton will be the halfway point of the 2010-11 regular season, with 40 games in the books and 40 games to go. BEARS Saturday Night Rewind returns to the airwaves after the Fairview Golf Course postgame show Saturday night. John Walton and Ed Coffey will be taking your phone calls on the ride home. Call 920-1460 to join the postgame conversation.
