Falcons Fall to Sharks 3-1

The Springfield Falcons held the lead for the majority of the night, but the Worcester Sharks used a pair of power play goals in the third period to skate away with a 3-1 win over the Falcons on Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons will now head to Albany on Saturday night for a showdown with the Devils.

Despite a scoreless first period, the frame featured a pair of altercations as Dane Byers and Chris Lawrence dropped the gloves, followed by Mike Blunden and Tommy Wingles getting together late in the opening frame.

After a scoreless first period, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 3:21 of the second period when Tom Sestito converted on the power play assisted by Ben Guite. The game's second fight occurred in the second period as Steven Goertzen and Joe Loprieno collected fighting majors.

In the third period, the Falcons were holding on to a one goal lead midway through the frame until Worcester was awarded a five-minute power play. On the man advantage, the Sharks scored a pair of goals to take their first lead of the night. Cam MacIntyre tied the game at 12:17 of the third period, followed by Jonathan Cheechoo converting at 14:22 of the final frame giving Worcester a 2-1 lead. Dan DaSilva added an insurance goal late in the third period giving the Sharks a 3-1 win.
