Admirals Players, President To Shave Heads For MACC Fund
April 1, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Milwaukee Admirals players Ben Guite, Ryan Thang, and Scott Ford and team president Jon Greenberg will all shave their heads to help raise money for the MACC Fund. The deed will take place on the ice following the team's final regular season game on Sunday, April 11th at 5:00 pm at the Bradley Center against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Fans will have the opportunity to both cut and shave the hair of the participants. For each donation of $20, fans can cut one piece of hair off the participant of their choosing, however there is a limit of 25 cuts per player. When all of the cuts are done one lucky fan for each player will have the opportunity to then shave their head. There will be a silent auction at the DigiCopy Information Table located outside section 225 at each of the Admirals four remaining home games. The auction will end with five minutes to go in the second intermission at the game on April 11th.
SportClips will provide all of the tools and equipment necessary to complete the head shaving and also to oversee the process.
Proceeds of the season-ending head shaving to benefit the MACC Fund will help the MACC Fund continue to support research at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the MACC Fund Research Center, at the University of Wisconsin's Paul Carbone Cancer Center in the MACC Fund Childhood Cancer Research Wing of the Wisconsin Interdisciplinary Medical Research Center and in the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Since its inception in 1976, the MACC Fund has contributed $36 million for pediatric cancer and blood disorder research for diseases like aplastic anemia and sickle cell. The overall cure rate for childhood cancer has risen from 20% to 80% since the inception of the MACC Fund 33 years ago with the MACC Fund's support playing an important role in that progress.
