Rochester's Tyler Plante Named Reebok/AHL Goaltender Of The Month

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Tyler Plante of the Rochester Americans has been named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month for March. Plante compiled a 1.88 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage and two shutouts in nine appearances, helping Rochester clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2007.

Plante began the month by making 40 saves in a 1-0 shutout victory at Toronto on Mar. 6, and the next night he turned aside 30 shots in a 3-2 win over Portland in a game played in Buffalo, N.Y. Plante stopped 10 of 11 shots in two periods of relief work at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Mar. 20, then got the start at Lake Erie on Mar. 24 and made 23 saves in a 3-1 win over the Monsters. Plante stopped 92 of 100 shots over three appearances from Mar. 26-28, and locked down Rochester's berth in the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs with a 37-save performance in a 3-0 shutout at Grand Rapids on Mar. 31. Plante finished the month 5-1-1 in his seven starts and 5-3-1 in nine decisions overall.

In recognition of his achievement, Plante will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Americans home game.

A second-round draft pick (32nd overall) by the Florida Panthers in 2005, Plante has a record of 10-11-1 with a 2.63 GAA, a .914 save percentage and three shutouts in 24 contests for Rochester this season. The third-year pro is in his first full AHL season and has now played 68 career AHL games with the Americans. The 22-year-old Plante is the brother of Springfield Falcons rookie Alex Plante, and the son of former AHL defenseman Cam Plante.

Other nominees for Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month include Adirondack's Carter Hutton, Albany's Mike Morrison, Chicago's Drew MacIntyre, Hamilton's Curtis Sanford, Houston's Anton Khudobin, Manchester's Jonathan Bernier, Manitoba's Cory Schneider, Norfolk's Dustin Tokarski, Peoria's Ben Bishop, Portland's J.P. Lamoureux, Rockford's Corey Crawford, San Antonio's Josh Tordjman, Texas's Brent Krahn and Worcester's Alex Stalock.
