Phantoms Sign Gustafsson & Harper To ATOs; Duchesne Recalled To Philadelphia

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson and forward Shane Harper to amateur tryout contracts (ATO). In a separate transaction the Flyers have recalled goaltender Jeremy Duchesne to Philadelphia.

Gustafsson, 22, recently completed his junior season of Division I college hockey for the Northern Michigan University Wildcats of the CCHA, where he registered 32 points (3 goals, 29 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 39 games. The Kvissleby, Sweden native also served as team captain for the Wildcats, while also leading all CCHA defensemen in scoring and assists and was tied for third overall among all CCHA players. For the second consecutive season, Gustafsson was named the CCHA's Best Offensive Defenseman and also selected to the CCHA All-Conference First Team for the second straight year. In his three seasons with Northern Michigan (2007-2010), Gustafsson recorded 93 points (7 goals, 86 assists) in 123 games career NCAA games. Gustafsson signed an entry-level pro contract with the Flyers on March 31st, which will begin with the 2010-2011 season.

Harper, 21, completed his fifth season with the Everett (WA) Silvertips of the WHL recorded a career-high 80 points (42 goals, 38 assists) and 38 penalty minutes to go along with a plus/minus rating of +36 in 72 games this season. The Valencia, California native also appeared in all seven of Everett's WHL Playoff games, leading the team with 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) as the Silvertips lost in seven games to the Kelowna Rockets in the first round. Harper led the team during the regular season in goals, assists and points, he ranked second in plus/minus and was tied for third in power play goals; he was sixth overall in the WHL in goals, tied for eleventh in plus/minus and tied for 19th in points. Over the course of his five seasons in Everett, Harper recorded 214 points (100 goals, 114 assists) and 97 penalty minutes in 335 career WHL games; he also had 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) and 6 PIMs in 29 career WHL playoff games. Harper signed an entry-level pro contract with the Flyers on March 4th, which, like Gustafsson, will begin at the start of the 2010-2011 season.

Duchesne, 23, is recalled to Philadelphia for the second time this year. The Silver Springs, Maryland native has made four starts for Adirondack this season, posting a 1-3-0 record, with a 2.94 goals-against average, a 0.899 save percentage and one shutout. In addition to his time with the Phantoms, Duchesne has appeared in 19 games with the Flyers' ECHL affiliate, the Kalamazoo Wings, posting a 9-4-5 record with one shutout, a 3.20 GAA and .904 save percentage. Drafted by Philadelphia in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Duchesne will be available to play in Thursday night's Flyers-Islanders game at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

Harper and Gustafsson join the Phantoms and bring their roster players on ATOs up to six, joining Ben Holmstrom and Carter Hutton from UMass-Lowell, Mario Valery-Trabucco from Union College and Chris Clackson from Western Michigan.

Adirondack is back at home on Friday, April 2nd as they host the Syracuse Crunch for a 7:30 pm puck drop at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Friday is Orange Crunch Night, where the team is asking all fans to Wear Orange in support of the Phantoms. Also on Friday night, come meet actor Paul D'Amato, who played "Dr. Hook" Tim McCracken in the legendary hockey movie Slapshot.
