Aucoin, Giroux, Gordon Are AHL All-Stars
April 1, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY - The 2009 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that left wing Alexandre Giroux and center Keith Aucoin have been named first-team AHL All-Stars for 2009-10. In addition, right wing Andrew Gordon has been named a second team AHL-All Star. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Aucoin, 31, established a new career-high Wednesday by recording his 100thpoint of the season in a win over Syracuse. The Waltham, MA native, who signed a two-year contract last month that will keep him in a Washington/HERSHEY uniform through the 2011-12 season, looks to win his first AHL scoring title as the 2009-10 campaign comes to a close. He is the highest scoring American-born player in AHL history.
Giroux, last season's AHL scoring champion, leads HERSHEY in goals with 44 after scoring twice Wednesday against Syracuse. He scored his 300th career AHL goal this past Sunday against the Binghamton Senators, and has now scored 104 goals over the last two seasons with six games remaining in 2009-10. He is currently second in the AHL in scoring with 97 points.
Gordon is a first time league All-Star, and is currently third in the league in goals scored. He is also tied for the league lead in power play goals, and has skated in two games this season for the Washington Capitals. One of the most durable players in HERSHEY'S lineup over the last three seasons, Gordon has piled up 70 points this season in 73 games played.
The BEARS look to set a new AHL record for most wins in a single season Friday, taking on the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena at 7:05 p.m. The Chocolate and White tied a league record Wednesday by winning its 57thgame at Syracuse against the Crunch. HERSHEY returns home to face Syracuse Saturday at Giant Center. Tickets are on sale now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS will play its final regular season home game Sunday at 6:00 p.m. against the Norfolk Admirals.
