
Admirals Edge Devils 2-1 in Shootout

NORFOLK, VA - John Gibson made 31 saves to help lead the Norfolk Admirals to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Albany Devils at the Norfolk Scope Friday night.
The Admirals (3-1-0-1, 7pts) struck first on the power play at 7:19 of the opening frame. Steven Whitney tipped and redirected a Kevin Gagne shot from the point, which clipped past Albany goaltender Keith Kinkaid to put Norfolk ahead 1-0.
Albany (2-1-0-1, 5pts) responded with a power play marker of its own at 12:59 of the first period. Albany's Jon Merrill worked the puck to blue line to Eric Gelinas. Gelinas blasted a slapshot that ripped high into to the net past Admirals netminder John Gibson for the tying goal. The two teams remained tied at the first intermission.
Both teams held each other in check for remaining 40 minutes of regulation. Albany outshot the Admirals 10-4 in the second period, but Gibson was able to turn all the shots aside.
The two teams remained tied at one at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Albany had several chances to take the game in the extra session, but Gibson continued to make the necessary saves and force the overtime shootout.
Norfolk received shootout goals from Joseph Cramarossa and Devante Smith-Pelly to pull ahead 2-0 in the shootout. Gibson stopped all four shots faced in the shootout to secure the 2-1 shootout victory.
Gibson earned his first professional victory stopping 31 of 32 shots in the game, while Kinkaid takes the loss allowing just one goal on 22 shots faced.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at Scope There will be a postgame skate with the Admirals players following the game! Skates will be available on a first come, first serve basis. However, fans are encouraged to bring their own skates to the game.

GAME NOTES: Albany's Eric Gelinas finished the game with a goal and nine shots on net...With Friday's shootout win, the Admirals have now garnered points in four of their five games played this season...Prior to Friday's game, the Anaheim Ducks recalled goaltender Frederik Andersen from Norfolk. In addition, the Admirals signed goaltender Aaron Dell to a PTO tryout.
