Springfield Falcons News Release

Providence, RI - The Springfield Falcons (4-0-0-0) defeated the Providence Bruins (2-2-0-1) by the final score of 5-2 Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, remaining unbeaten through the first four games of the season for the first time in the franchise's 20-year history.

For the third straight contest since being loaned to Springfield by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tim Erixon recorded a multi-point game. He scored the first goal of the night at 13:17 of the opening period to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Just 46 second later, Erixon fired a slap shot from the left point that was deflected in front of the net by Springfield rookie Lukas Sedlak, upping the lead to 2-0. Erixon finished the night with four points (one goal, three assists) and a +3 rating, increasing his season total to nine points (two goals, seven assists) and a +7 rating in just three games.

Jack Skille, in his return to the lineup after missing the team's last two games, added his first goal of the season. Skille found the back of the net at 10:55 of the third period as he wrapped around the back of the net and finished with a backhanded flip past Providence netminder Malcolm Subban.

Jean-Francois Jacques made his season debut with the Falcons, returning to the team for the first time since the 2008-09 season. At the 3:40 mark of the third period, Jacques put back his own rebound for his first goal of the year and a 3-1 Falcons lead. The goal would be the eventual game-winner.

Alex Aleardi added an empty-net goal with 1:06 remaining in regulation to cap off the Springfield scoring.

Matt Fraser and Craig Cunningham scored the Bruins' goals.

Goaltender Jeremy Smith (3-0-0) made a season-high 39 saves on 41 shots faced between the pipes for the Falcons. Subban (0-2-0) stopped 22 of 26 shots in net for Providence.

In a game with few penalties, each team had success on the power play. Springfield finished the contest 1-for-4 with the man advantage, while Providence went 1-for-2.
