Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons have agreed to terms with defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer on an American Hockey League contract, Barons General Manager Bill Scott announced today. Burgdoerfer played for the Bakersfield Condors the last four seasons.
The East Setauket, N.Y., native was named captain of the Condors in January 2013 and played 202 games for Bakersfield, registering 53 points (11-42-53) and 218 penalty minutes. Burgdoerfer played at RPI for four years and was named to the ECAC All-Academic team in 2009-10. He played two junior seasons with the New York Apple Core (EJHL) where he was an All-EJHL selection. Burgdoerfer also represented the United States at the National Under-16 and Under-17 Festivals in 2004 and 2005.
The Barons are home this weekend, hosting the Abbotsford Heat in a two-game set. Friday night's game features concession specials, including $2 beers and $1 hot dog, while Saturday night is the return of Drive Away Every Saturday, where someone will drive away in a 2013 Dodge Avenger. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m. CT.
NOTE: The Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenseman Denis Grebeshkov from his conditioning assignment in Oklahoma City. Grebeshkov played in three games for the Barons.
