Devils Earn Point In Shootout

NORFOLK, VA -- The Albany Devils and the Norfolk Admirals exchanged first period goals and then went scoreless the rest of the way. After 65 minutes, the Admirals prevailed 2-0 in a shootout and 2-1 in the game Friday at Scope Arena. Despite the loss, the Devils move their point streak to three games and their record to 2-1-0-1 overall.

Albany owned a 32-22 shot advantage and a strong forecheck gave Norfolk fits all game. Admirals netminder John Gibson had an answer for 21 of the Devils opportunities, including four during the overtime period.

In the shootout, Joseph Cramarossa scored in the third round and Devante Smith-Pelly sealed the victory in the fourth.

Keith Kinkaid finished with 21 saves and was called upon several times down the stretch to keep the game tied. He made six stops in the first, four in the second, nine in the third and one in overtime.

Norfolk's Steven Whitney, brother of Devils winger Joe, netted the night's first goal on a redirection at 7:19 while on the power play. Albany responded minutes later with a man-advantage tally at 12:59. Jon Merrill and Scott Timmins setup Eric Gelinas for a blast from the left point.

The goal was Gelinas first of the season and the assist was Merrill's fourth. Timmins extended his scoring streak to four games with his team-leading sixth point.
