Crunch Fall to Senators 6-2

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch fell to the Binghamton Senators 6-2 tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Senators goaltender Nathan Lawson stopped 40 of 42 shots as the Crunch drop their second consecutive game to Binghamton. Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins stopped 14 shots for the loss.

The Senators jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 7:05 mark of the first period by capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity. Mike Hoffman scored his first of the season, beating Desjardins after the Crunch were caught with too many men on the ice and a tripping minor from Mike Angelidis.

The Crunch tied the game with 3:18 to play in the first period with a power-play goal from Vlad Namestnikov. Namestnikov played the puck from behind the goal line, banking it off Lawson to make it a 1-1 game.

Nikita Kucherov put the Crunch ahead with another power-play tally halfway through the second stanza. Kucherov one-timed a cross-crease pass from Namestnikov for his fifth goal of the season.

It was all Binghamton from that point on, the Senators scored the next five goals to close out the Crunch. Buddy Robinson tied the game at the 9:43 mark and Ben Blood's point shot was deflected past Desjardins a minute later.

Hoffman extended the Senators lead to two with his second goal of the game, an unassisted tally with 4:32 to play in the middle frame. Senators right wing Andre Petersson made it 5-2 with a goal 4:43 into the final frame. Chris Wideman and Mika Zibanejad respectively picked up their third and second assists of the night on the goal.

Matt Puempel scored his first of the season at the 14:11 mark for a final score of 6-2.

The Crunch will rematch the Senators tomorrow night in Binghamton at 7:05 p.m.

Crunchables: Matt Taormina and Vlad Namestnikov both have a three-game point streak...Tonight marks the first time in Namestnikov's career he has scored in back-to- back games...With an assist tonight Nikita Kucherov brought his season point total to eight points (4g, 4a) which leads the AHL among Rookies and ranks eighth overall.
