Norfolk Admirals News Release

The Philadelphia Phantoms erased a three-goal deficit to defeat Norfolk 5-4 in overtime in the Admirals' season opener in Philadelphia.

Brandon Bochenski tallied the Admirals first goal of the 2006-07 Admirals campaign 6:28 into the first period on the power play. He sent a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that eluded Phantoms netminder Martin Houle to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Admirals captain Craig MacDonald stole the puck from Philadelphia and sent Carl Corazzini on a shorthanded breakaway. Corazzini deked and sent a forehand shot past the left skate of Houle at 8:26. Former Admiral Matt Ellison scored a shorthanded goal at 15:27 to cut the Norfolk lead in half. However, Ivan Novoseltsev re-directed a Martin St. Pierre feed from behind the net past Houle with only 31 seconds remaining to give Norfolk a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Mid-way through the second period, the Admirals found themselves shorthanded once again. However, MacDonald found the puck along the half boards to the left of Houle and dished it to Corazzini in the slot. The Admirals right wing one-timed the puck into the back of the net at 9:21. The Phantoms closed to within two goals again when Alexandre Picard tallied a power play goal at 12:14. Norfolk took a 4-2 lead into the third period.

Stefan Ruzicka scored a power play goal of a one-time feed from Ellison 2:18 into the third period. With 15 seconds remaining in the third and an extra attacker on for the Phantoms, Ruzicka again found the back of the net to force overtime.

Ruzicka completed the natural hat trick just fifteen seconds into overtime to give the Phantoms a 5-4 victory.

Sebastien Caron was saddled with the loss in his Admirals debut and made 20 saves. Martin Houle picked up the victory for the Phantoms by making 29 saves on 33 shots.

Norfolk was 1-8 on the power play. Philadelphia was 2-9.
