Admirals All-Stars pace team to win

Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI - Rich Peverley knocked in his ninth goal of the year and followed up with two assists to lead the Milwaukee Admirals in their 4-2 victory over the Toronto Marlies at the Bradley Center Thursday night. The victory marked the end to a three game slide for Milwaukee and was their first victory on home ice since December 18th.

A chippy first period got off on the right foot for the Admirals when Toronto forward Robert Lang was whistled for interference and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty giving Milwaukee a four minute power play 6:18 into the frame. It didn't take the Ads long to strike as just 48 seconds into the man advantage, Mike Santorelli tipped in snapshot one-timer from defenseman Janne Niskala past the sliding Toronto goalie Justin Pogge.

The Marlies would strike back at 12:04 into the first on a power play goal by David Ling. Ling snatched a rebound left by Admiral netminder Pekka Rinne and poked it through the open five-hole.

The Ads potted two quick goals late in the first period to get a 3-1 advantage. The first came when Peverley took the puck from behind the Marlie net and let go a wrist shot that found its way into the small space above Pogge's shoulder at the 17:24 mark. Matt Ellison would tack on another goal when he fired a centering pass from Peverley between the stick of Pogge and the left post.

The second frame highlighted the frustration of both teams as the period was riddled with penalties. Both teams had three power play opportunities but neither could cash in. While the Admirals were able to keep the puck in the Marlie end for the majority of the period, it would end with the same score as it had started.

Milwaukee added another insurance goal 1:48 into the third after Antti Pihlstrom finally settled a Pogge rebound and poked it past the diving netminder. The goal marked Pihlstrom's 15th tally of the year; the most on the Admiral roster.

Toronto center Darryl Boyce would close the gap to 4-2 when former University of Wisconsin star Robbie Earl picked off a Milwaukee turnover and gave a centering pass to Boyce who pushed it past Rinne's outstretched leg.

Peverley and Ellison each posted a goal and an assist to pace the Milwaukee offense, while Niskala picked up two assists. Rinne stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced to earn his 17th win of the season
