January 10, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced Thursday that center Jared Ross has been named to the PlanetUSA All-Star team for the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok, which will take place this month at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, N.Y. The event includes the 2008 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 27, and the 2008 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 28.

A 25-year-old native of Huntsville, Alabama, Ross will be playing in his first All-Star game. He has appeared in 35 of Philadelphia's 37 games played this season and leads the team in scoring to this point, posting 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points to go along with a plus-10 rating. He has also served as one of the Phantoms alternate captains this season.

Ross has had three or more points in four games this season, including a four-point night in Hamilton on Nov. 30 where he scored a goal and added three assists. He recorded the fifth natural hat trick in team history in a 4-3 win vs. Springfield on Oct. 27.

Ross came to the Phantoms from the Chicago Wolves on Feb. 28, 2007 in a trade that sent Niko Dimitrakos to the Wolves. He flourished after the deal, posting four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 21 games after having just seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 41 games with Chicago. He signed with the Wolves as a free agent before the 2005-06 season and went on to record 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 62 games his rookie season.

Ross grew up in a hockey family in Huntsville, where his father Doug was the head coach of the Division I program at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for 25 years before retiring last year. Ross played four seasons for his father at UAH and finished as one of the top offensive players in school history, scoring 73 goals and adding 86 assists for 159 points in 133 career games. He holds the school record for goals and points scored by a center, and ranks second on the UAH all-time scoring list. For three of those seasons, he was a teammate of Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe.

The 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok will match the league's Canadian-born All-Stars against the PlanetUSA All-Star squad, which is comprised of players who were born in the USA and all other countries. Ross will join Alexandre Picard, who was named yesterday to the Canadian all-star team.

The Phantoms return to the ice tomorrow night at 7:05 when the Lake Erie Monsters make their first-ever visit to the Wachovia Spectrum. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
