Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

The Baton Rouge Kingfish begin training camp this Friday, September 27, 2001, in preparation of their seventh East Coast Hockey League season. Head Coach Cam Brown is expecting to be joined by twenty-three skaters when camp opens on Friday.

"I'm excited about the group of guys that we have coming in," said Kingfish head Coach Cam Brown. "I'm looking forward to getting on the ice and seeing what we can do."

The Kingfish open camp with just three players returning from last season. In addition, Baton Rouge will open camp with three former New Orleans Brass players.

"They bring a lot of defensive smarts," said Brown. "Cheredaryk is a proven leader and Peach is a great team guy while Schafer is a quality goaltender to build any team in this league around."

The Kingfish will open camp in Lafayette at the Iceplex on Friday and will skate there as well on Saturday and Sunday. For the remainder of camp, Baton Rouge will be on the ice most days in the Centroplex from 10 a.m.-12 noon. All ice session, excluding Friday's exhibition game, are open to the public. In addition, the Kingfish will take part in off ice conditioning as well as circuit training. A tentative training camp schedule follows. The Kingfish will conclude training camp with a pair of home-and-home exhibition games against the Louisiana Ice Gators. Baton Rouge will be at home in Centroplex on October 4 for a 2:05 match-up open only to Kingfish season ticket holders, while they will play in Lafayette on October 6th.
