Kalamazoo Wings News Release

1KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings were backed by Nick Riopel's steady goaltending and a timely special teams' success, as they toppled the Fort Wayne Komets, 2-1, on Saturday night at Wings Event Center.

Continuing their momentum form the matchup the night before in Fort Wayne, the Komets took the game's first lead with a power play marker from *Devin Mantha*. As the Komets carried into Kalamazoo territory, *Garrett Thompson *found a soft spot along the left wing and slid a pass into the slot for Mantha to deposit the puck into the goal.

Early in period two and building confidence with sustained pressure, Kalamazoo pulled even at the 2:18 mark. Ben Wilson served up Justin Taylor *with a crisp pass, and Taylor fired a shot towards Fort Wayne goalie *Eric Hartzell*, who was beat cleanly on the shot. It was Taylor's team-leading ninth goal of the season and sent the game into the third period tied at one.

The intensity picked up in the third period, and Kalamazoo used a power play opportunity to pull ahead in the early moments of the final frame. With the extra attacker, Peter Schneider carried into the Fort Wayne zone and dropped a no-look pass to Tanner Sorenson, who walked in untouched and picked the top corner of the goal for his fourth of the season.

The Komets pulled Hartzell in favor of an extra attacker in the waning minutes, but Kalamazoo tightened up in the defensive zone and earned the home-ice victory.
