Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Stephen Perfetto scored two goals in his return from the AHL, Peter Sivak had a goal and an assist, but the Toledo Walleye skated away with the extra point in a 20-man shootout, winning 4-3 over Alaska Friday night at the Sullivan Arena.
Despite the loss, the Aces picked up an ECHL point to stretch their consecutive game point streak to 9.
The Walleye opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the first period on a goal by Beau Schmitz, his first of the season.
Alaska answered at 3:20. On the power play, Sivak hit the crossbar and the puck ricoched to Perfetto near the right goal llne. He was able to thread the needle, snapping the puck past Walleye goaltender Jake Paterson and into the net for his 8th goal of the season. Tim Coffman also picked up an assist.
Tyler Sikura tipped a centering pass past Alaska netminder Kevin Carr at 5:32, and Toledo had a 2-1 first period lead.
The second period, scoring-wise, was all Alaska.
Perfetto struck again, taking a nice pass from Steve Tarasuk from behind the Toledo net and nailing the back of the net at 8:09 for his second goal of the game, ninth goal of the season. Tarasuk, who took the first shot then followed his rebound gets a helper, as does Danny Moynihan.
Exactly two minutes later, Sivak got his, sniping a small hole above Paterson's shoulder and the near post, short side from the left goal line, and the Aces had their first lead of the game at 3-2. Perfetto and Marc-Andre Levesque with assists.
In the third period, Evan Rankin tied the game at 3 with his ninth goal of the season and was 3-3 heading to overtime.
Toledo dominated the OT, getting 6 shots on goal compared to Alaska's one, and dominating possession as well. The Aces bent but they didn't break.
The shootout went to shooter number 20. That shooter was Jacob McDonald who slid a tricky shot past Carr and into the net to get the Walleye their ninth straight win.
Toledo outshot the Aces 36-34 for the game.
The Aces and Walleye play again Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Sullivan Arena.
