Cyclones Fall in Overtime for Second Straight Night

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (9-10-4-0) dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Quad City Mallards on Saturday night. Defensemen Arvin Atwal and Craig Dalrymple, along with forward Tommy Mele scored the goals for the Cyclones.

For the second straight game the Cyclones' power play found the back of the net, as Atwal slid a cross-ice feed from the right side to Dalrymple who blasted a shot past Quad City goaltender Adam Vay to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead, 5:30 into the first.

Cincinnati held onto that 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first period, and in the second the Mallards got some outstanding goaltending from Vay, as he made a number of highlight-reel saves to keep Cincinnati off the board.

Quad City ultimately pulled even with the Cyclones at the 13:34 mark of the second period when defenseman Andrew Panzarella lit the lamp to tie the game, 1-1, after two periods.

The Mallards came out of the gates flying in the third period, receiving goals :22 apart from defenseman Dylan Labbe and forward Michael Parks to give a Quad City a 3-1 lead.

The Cyclones were not deterred and managed to pull back to within a goal midway through the frame while shorthanded when a pass from forward Andrew Yogan found Mele who skated around Vay and tucked the puck in to cut the Cincinnati deficit to 3-2.

Cincinnati tied the game roughly seven minutes later when forward Jordan Sims won the face-off back to Atwal and he hammered a shot from the right-wing blue line into the net to pull the Cyclones even with the Mallards, 3-3, and forcing overtime for the second straight night.

It did not take long for the extra session to end, as just :39 seconds in, Quad City defenseman Guillaume Gelinas skated in on a breakaway and scored to lift the Mallards to a 4-3 overtime win.

Both teams recorded 24 shots on goal on the evening, with Cyclones netminder Brad Thiessen stopping 20 in the loss. The Cyclones return home on Thursday night to take on the Indy Fuel in the first of a back-to-back. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
