Freedom Drop Series Finale to Traverse City, 8-5
June 13, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
A late rally for the Freedom fell short in the series finale against the Traverse City Beach Bums by a score of 8-5 Thursday night at University of Cincinnati Medical Center Stadium.
The Beach Bums wasted no time jumping on top, scoring a pair of runs in the first on a two-run single by first baseman Chase Burch off of Freedom starter Jason Wilson (L, 1-3).
Florence would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by left fielder David Harris. The blast was Harris's league-leading sixth of the year and pulled the Freedom to within a run at 2-1.
From there, Traverse City took off. The Beach Bums extended the lead to 4-1 in the third on a two-run homer by Zach Kometani.
They would add another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth on a two-run triple by Kometani staking starter Jacob Clem (W, 3-3) to a 7-1 lead. Kometani would end the game a single shy of the cycle, driving in five runs.
The Freedom would begin to rally back in the seventh, scoring on an RBI double by Pablo Bermudez that cut the lead to 7-2.
However, Traverse City would answer right back with another run in the top of the eighth to make it 8-2.
The Freedom continued to claw their way back in the bottom of the eighth, cutting the lead to 8-5 after Jeremy Hamilton singled home two runs.
The Freedom would get no closer as Matt Miller (S, 3) would get J.C. Figueroa to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game and give the Beach Bums a series win.
The Freedom's six game home stand continues tomorrow, when the Freedom host the Frontier Greys in game one of a three game set. First pitch is at 6:35 with the UCMC Stadium gates opening one hour earlier at 5:35. Tickets are available at the UCMC Stadium box office or by calling (859) 594-HITS. The game can also be heard on 1320-AM WCVG and online at gospel1320.com. Steve Jarnicki and Jake Meyer will have all the play-by-play action beginning with the pregame show at 6:20.
