Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts (9-16) and the Schaumburg Boomers (14-11) split a double header to finish out the three-game series Thursday evening at Standard Bank Stadium. The 'Bolts managed a 2-1 victory of the opening game of the twin bill, while Schaumburg salvaged the last game of the series 2-0.
In the first contest, the ThunderBolts continued their early production as they scored a pair of runs with two outs in the 3rd inning. On a 2-2 count, Chad Cregar delivered a two-RBI double into right field bringing home Ryan Soares and Zach Aakhus for a 2-0 'Bolts lead.
Schaumburg got one of those runs right back in the top of the 4th as Steve McQuail cut the lead in half with a solo blast. The Boomers' designated hitter sent a 0-1 pitch over the left center field wall to bring Schaumburg closer 2-1.
Travis Strong (1-3) earned his first win while Danny Jimenez picked up the loss (1-3). Michael Click (2) recorded the save despite providing some late inning drama.
The second game also provided impressive pitching by both teams. In his first appearance as a starter, Schaumburg's Matt Kuna went four scoreless innings and the Boomers' bullpen didn't allow a run through three.
The Boomers scored the only runs of the game in the 2nd inning all with two outs. Alexi Colon hit a solo homerun over the right field wall and Ty Nelson was brought home by Craig Hertler's single.
Kuna (3-0) worked 4.2 innings without allowing a run for the win and Travis Tingle (0-2) took the loss despite giving up just two runs (one earned) in four innings. Dexter Price worked a scoreless seventh for his second save.
Windy City will continue its 15-game home stretch by next welcoming in the Southern Illinois Miners Friday at 7:05 p.m. Dyllon Nuernberg (0-0, 2.70) will take the mound for Windy City against Southern Illinois' Preston Vancil (2-0, 3.27). It will be Budweiser Fill 'R Up Friday at Standard Bank Stadium and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast at wcthunderbolts.com.
