Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The ECHL and the Colorado Eagles announced today details regarding the upcoming Skills Competition, presented by CCM & OtterBox, that will be a part of next week's 2013 ECHL All-Star Week, presented by CCM. The Skills Competition will pit the Colorado Eagles against the ECHL All-Stars on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo., starting at 7:05 p.m. (MST). Tickets for the event start at just $10 and can be purchased at www.ComcastTix.com.
The teams will go head-to-head in six different skills competitions, with points being awarded to individual and team winners in each to decide a winning squad. The six competitions are outlined below (video demonstrations, created by Madwire Media can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/AllStarSkillsDemos):
Team Skills Course (Presented by University of Colorado Health): A contest that pits eight players from each team in a race that utilizes several hockey skills, from stickhandling, to passing, to shooting and scoring on an odd-man rush. The team that completes the course the fastest will receive one point in the competition.
Shooting Accuracy (Presented by The City of Loveland): Shooters will have 18 seconds to break four targets stationed in each corner of the net. They'll receive eight total passes from teammates in each circle (four from each). A point in the competition will be awarded to the team with the most accurate shooter and to the team with the most combined targets hit.
Goalie Rapid Fire Challenge (Presented by Sher-Wood): Goaltenders will face a pair of shooters who have 12 seconds to fire five shots on net (slapshots are not allowed). This is a challenge won by the goalies; most saves wins a point in the competition.
Fastest Skater (Presented by OtterBox): Skaters will race the clock and each other as they race make a lap around the rink as fast as they can. One point will be awarded to the team with the fastest skater and another to the team with the fastest average.
Hardest Shot (Presented by CCM): Each player will get two chances to shoot the puck as hard as they can into the net. A point in the competition will be given to the team whose player registers the hardest shot, and another to the team with the hardest average shot.
Breakaway Relay Challenge (Presented by The MeiGray Group): Each team will have five skaters line up at the blue line and break in alone on the opposing goalie. After scoring or being stopped on the breakaway, the player will race back to the blue line, whereupon the next in line takes his turn. This competition will include two sets of players; each session will last just 45 seconds. Each goal will count as a point for the respective team, and with each team having the chance to record 10 goals, this final challenge in the competition will be pivotal.
