Bakersfield Condors News Release
CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors and Head Coach Matt O'Dette today announced the signing of RW Scott Freeman. He has joined the team in Utah and could play as early as this weekend.
Freeman, who turned 24 last Saturday, battled through an injury-plagued season in 2011-12, but was among Condors scoring leaders for much of the campaign. In 29 games last season, Freeman racked up 15 goals and 15 assists, and ranked 6th on the team in points, despite missing over half the season.
Freeman was named the ECHL Rookie of the Month in October, 2011. He missed half of the month of December to injury, and when he went down again in early January, he ranked among ECHL rookie leaders in points (4th), goals (2nd), shorthanded goals (1st) and game winning goals (1st). He managed to play in only one more game the remainder of the season.
What Coach O'Dette says:
"Freeman is a dynamic offensive player and a threat to score every time he's on the ice. He will bolster our offense for sure. It's nice to have a familiar face back in town, and he's looking to build on his success from last season."
The Whitby, Ontario native started the season with Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian league, posting 13 points (6g-7a) in 20 games. He made his pro debut with the Victoria Salmon Kings at the tail end of the 2010-11 season, notching five points in six games. Freeman played four seasons at Clarkson University, where he was a teammate with current Condors forward, and reigning ECHL Player of the Week, Nicholas Tremblay.
Youth Jerseys and Cowboy Hats up next
The Condors will play the next seven games on the road over the next 15 days, with contests in Utah, Ontario, Wheeling, Toledo, Kalamazoo and Las Vegas. Also sandwiched into the stretch is the ECHL All-Star Classic, in Loveland, Colorado on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
They return home to host Colorado on Feb. 1 with Youth Jersey Giveaway Night, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, Hot Hits 93.1 and Rabobank. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under will get a Condors youth jersey featuring Alternate Captain Peter Boyd.
On Saturday, Feb. 2 they play Ontario again on Cowboy Hat Giveaway Night, sponsored by the Emporium Western Store. The first 2,000 fans 5 and older will get their choice between and tan or black Condors cowboy hat (while supplies last).
