Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Manchester, New Hampshire- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats showed why they're the best team in the Eastern League with a 7-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon. The Fisher Cats got plenty of offense, taking a 6-0 lead against Sea Dogs starter Brock Huntzinger (4-6). Joel Carreno (6-5) spun six innings, allowing three runs. However, he also struck out nine Portland batters. The New Hampshire bullpen once again locked down the victory with three scoreless innings. The Fisher Cat relievers did not allow a single hit in nine innings over the course of the three game sweep.
New Hampshire jumped on Huntzinger in the fourth inning. Mike McDade singled to leadoff the inning, then scored on Moises Sierra's double. Ricardo Nanita followed with a base hit to put runners on first and third. After Huntzinger struck out John Tolisano, Mark Sobolewski drilled a three-run home run to right field for the 4-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats increased their lead to 6-0 on an RBI triple by Callix Crabbe. He came in to score on Adeiny Hechavarria's single. This was Huntzinger's first outing against New Hampshire. The Indiana native was hit with his second loss in three starts.
The Sea Dogs got on the board against Carreno in the fifth inning. Jon Hee led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Oscar Tejeda walked before Hee scored on a Jorge Padron sacrifice fly. Mitch Dening followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. Another wild pitch by Carreno scored Tejeda and put Dening on third base. Ryan Khoury drove him in with a base hit before Carreno finally got out of the inning.
Unfortunately, Carreno rebounded for a perfect sixth inning before giving way to the Fisher Cats bullpen. Clint Everts, Chad Beck, and Matt Daly all went one scoreless inning to hold the lead. Daly finished the game with a perfect ninth inning. Sierra provided the insurance with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
The Sea Dogs return home to start an eight-game, seven-day homestand. Portland battles the New Britain Rock Cats in the start of a four game series tomorrow night. The game tomorrow will be broadcast on NESN. Tuesday night will be a doubleheader against the Rock Cats, with Breakin' B-Boy McCoy providing entertainment throughout the night.
