Rock Cats Have Three Player Moves
June 26, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced three roster moves today as they will receive two players - a left-handed Reliever and middle Infielder - back from Triple-A Rochester, while the Eastern League club also released a right-handed Pitcher.
The details:
RHP Santos Arias, the hard-throwing 24-year-old bullpen specialist out of La Romana, Dominican Republic, was granted his release today after having spent five-plus seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization. Signed as a Free Agent in 2005, the slender Arias won a total of 33 games at the Minor League level since signing. The 5'11"/162-pound right-hander made 41 appearances for New Britain over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and his composite line at the AA level was 1-7.
LHP Jake Stevens, the 26-year-old southpaw from Cape Coral, FL who began the 2011 Season in a New Britain uniform, is returning to the Rock Cats after a month-long stint with Rochester in the Triple-A International League. A former 3rd Round pick of Atlanta's in 2003, the 6'2"/215-pound southpaw was signed by Minnesota as a Free Agent in December of 2010. Prior to his promotion to the Red Wings, Stevens had made 14 relief appearances for New Britain and posted a 1-2 record (4.87 ERA) with 2 Saves.
INF Michael Hollimon, the 28-year-old Dallas, TX native who played briefly for the Detroit Tigers in 2008, will rejoin the Rock Cats after two-plus weeks with Rochester in the International League. Prior to his early June advancement to the Red Wings, the sure-handed Hollimon appeared in 44 games for the 2011 Rock Cats, batting a deceiving .192 as his 30 Hits included 5 Doubles and a team-leading 7 Home Runs. The University of Texas product was signed by Minnesota as a Free Agent in December of 2010.
Both Stevens and Hollimon will join the Rock Cats later today.
The Rock Cats expressed their appreciation to Mr. Santos for his service over two seasons.
