SeaWolves Swept by Squirrels

The SeaWolves dropped their fourth straight game as they were swept by the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 10-1 on Sunday afternoon at The Diamon.

The SeaWolves struck for a run in the top of the first inning against Richmond starter Ryan Verdugo. Jamie Johnson led off with his team leading 45th walk and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Gustavo Nunez. Johnson scored on an RBI single off the bat of Francisco Martinez for a 1-0 lead.

The Flying Squirrels quickly responded in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Brooks Brown. With two outs, Roger Kieschnick homered to right, tying the game at 1-1.

The Squirrels continued to swing hot bats into the second. With one out, Brown served up consecutive singles to Juan Perez and Johnny Monell. Nick Noonan walked loading the bases for the top of the lineup. Francisco Peguero lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Perez for a 2-1 Richmond lead. The Squirrels would add four more runs on four straight singles by Charlie Culberson, Kieschnick, Chris Domingez and Wes Hodges for a 6-1 lead.

In the third, Perez led off with a double and came home to score on a Noonan one-out single for a 7-1 Squirrels edge. Peguero singled and with two outs, Kieschnick walked loading the bases for Dominguez. Dominguez doubled to left, plating Noonan and Peguero for a 9-1 Richmond lead.

Richmond would add a run in the seventh against reliever Rob Waite. Monell led off with a double and came home to score on a Peguero single for a 10-1 Flying Squirrels lead.

Brown (1-2) took the loss allowing nine runs on 11 hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.1 innings of work.

The SeaWolves head home to being a eight-game, seven day homestand on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park...7:05 First Pitch. LHP Casey Crosby (4-2, 3.32 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Brandon Moore (5-5, 3.97 ERA).
