Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BOWIE, MD - Matt Harvey finished on the losing end of his Double-A debut after allowing four runs over 4 2/3 innings in the B-Mets' 6-4 loss to Bowie at Prince George's Stadium Sunday afternoon. The shortcoming ended Binghamton's season-best four-game winning streak. However, the B-Mets took their third straight series two games to one.

The Baysox jumped on top early against Harvey. Buck Britton tripled with one out in the first and came home to score on a sacrifice fly to right from LJ Hoes.

Bowie (37-36) was back at it in the third. Britton keyed the offense again with a one-out single to right. Britton was on the move when Hoes grounded out to short, putting him in scoring position. Joe Mahoney followed and plated Britton with a double into the left-field corner, which put the Baysox ahead 2-0.

Binghamton (27-46) took advantage of a Bowie error in the fourth to get on the scoreboard. Left-hander Mike Ballard, who entered in relief in the third inning, hit the first two batters of the inning and fired a wild pitch to move the runners to second and third with no outs. After retiring the next two, Ballard appeared to get Eric Campbell to hit into an inning-ending groundout to second, but Greg Miclat booted the ball. Brahiam Maldonado scored on the play to cut the deficit in half.

Harvey righted the ship in the fourth by facing the minimum, but he would not make it out of the fifth inning. Pedro Florimon led off the fifth with a single to center. Xavier Avery sacrificed him to second. Harvey then walked Britton to get to Hoes, who punished him with an RBI single to right-center. The Mets' 2010 first-rounder allowed the next two to reach as well and departed with the bases loaded and two outs. Erik Turgeon replaced him and uncorked a wild pitch, which scored Hoes, before getting Steve Lerud to hit a comebacker to the mound that ended the inning.

Trailing 4-1, the B-Mets made a game of it with a pair of runs in the sixth. Maldonado led off the frame with a triple. Allan Dykstra scored him with a groundout to second. After Ballard retired Jean Luc Blaquiere on strikes, Raul Reyes clubbed a double off the right-field wall. Eric Campbell made it count with an RBI single to right, which trimmed the Baysox lead to one, 4-3.

Brad Holt entered in the sixth and surrendered a pair of runs over 1 1/3 innings of work to stretch the Bowie lead to three.

Maldonado drew the B-Mets back within two in the eighth. Pedro Viola served up a solo homer to the Binghamton designated hitter, his 14th of the season.

Viola would get out of the eighth without further damage and passed the ball to Armando Gabino, who fired the ninth in 1-2-3 fashion to secure his third save.

Ballard was credited with the win. He followed Alfredo Simon, who tossed two, scoreless innings in a rehab outing. The southpaw fired five innings of three-run ball.

Bowie hammered out a season-high 15 hits en route to the win. Mahoney and Florimon each had three hits. Binghamton pounded out eight hits led by Maldonado, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Binghamton continues its road trip with the first game of a four-game set at Erie Monday at 7:05 PM. RHP Brandon Moore (5-5, 3.97) gets the call opposite LHP Casey Crosby (4-2, 3.32). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
