New Britain Rock Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - Trenton's Dellin Betances hurled six shutout innings and Jose Pirela and Deangelo Mack homered to power the Thunder to a 6-2 victory over the Rock Cats before a sellout crowd of 6,507 - the third consecutive sellout at New Britain Stadium. With the capacity crowd, the Rock Cats set a new franchise record for a three-day weekend. The Rock Cats attracted a total of 22,683 fans during the three-game series.
Mack picked up right where he left off from his standout performance on Saturday night. In the second inning, Mack delivered an RBI single that plated Bradley Suttle, who had led off with a single, for the 1-0 advantage.
Pirela tacked on another run for the Thunder with a solo shot over the center field wall in the third inning. The Thunder struck again in the fifth. Raymond Kruml led off with a triple and came around to score on a one out single by Suttle. Robert Lyerly added another RBI single in the inning for a 4-0 lead.
Mack launched a solo home run to right field to open the sixth inning. The Thunder tacked on two more runs in the seventh off of reliever Blake Martin. Corban Jospeh greeted Martin with a double into center. Martin then walked two of the next three batters to load the bases before Jose Gil's sacrifice fly to right scored Joseph from third.
The Rock Cats didn't get on the board until the bottom of the seventh. Chris Parmelee led off the inning with a triple to center off relief man Brad Halsey. Evan Bigley's single knocked in Parmlee to put the Rock Cats on the board, 6-1. Yangervis Solarte followed with a double before Bigley scored on a groundout by Brian Dozier.
Betances (4-3) limited the Rock Cats to one hit and struck out four but walked four.
Rock Cats starting pitcher Dennis Suarez (1-2) scattered eight hits and allowed five runs in six innings to suffer the loss.
ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: LF Deangelo Mack went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a solo home run for the Thunder.
