June 26, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
On Sunday afternoon in front of 5,017 fans the Senators finished a three-game sweep of the Altoona Curve with a 6-0 win. It was their second shutout of the series and their seventh shutout this season. Shairon Martis pitched 8.1 innings, the longest outing this year for a Senators' starter.
Martis struck out 10 and was lifted after allowing a one-out double in the ninth to Starling Marte. Martis allowed just three hits in the game and didn't walk a batter. Rafael Martin retired the final two batters to finish the game for Harrisburg.
Phil Irwin started for Altoona and took the loss, his first on the season. The Sens struck for four runs against Irwin in the fourth inning. Devin Ivany singled in Bill Rhinehart with the first run of the game when a ball hit back up the middle hit the second base bag. Jonathan Tucker singled in a run with a second run scoring on a throwing error on the same play. The final run of the inning scored when Tucker raced home from third on a two-strike wild pitch to Martis that allowed Martis to reach base.
Ivany homered in the eighth, a two-run shot, for the final winning margin. Ivany had two hits while the other seven starters each had one hit for the Sens.
The Sens finish the homestand 4-2 and have won four straight games. They improve to 43-31, 12 games over .500 for the first time since the final day of the 2010 season.
They begin an eight-game in seven-day road trip on Monday with the first of three in Richmond. RH Tanner Roark is on the mound for the Sens and RH Henry Sosa takes the hill for Richmond. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:50 p.m. Monday night with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
