Las Vegas Aviators News Release
Las Vegas: "Anyone have an extra tape measure" or "I love that yarn - where did you get it - are a couple of comments you may overhear at any one of the outrageously fun events called Stitch N' Pitch. On Monday, June 13th the Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will host fans for "Stitch N' Pitch"! In the past four years, The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) has partnered with Major League and Minor League Baseball to host people who love to knit, crochet, cross-stitch, embroider and needlepoint at these annual special themed events. These promotional events attract thousands of "Stitch N' Pitch fans" every year who are encouraged to bring their yarn, knitting needles, patterns, needlepoint and needlearts projects to work on during the game. Stitching in public has become a hot trend and seeing groups of people working on needlearts projects in coffee shops, on the bus or subway and other public places is becoming a regular sighting.
TNNA and Stitch N' Pitch will raise awareness for The Needle Arts Mentoring Program and Needle and Thread-Stitching for Literacy; both organizations promote the importance of children and the needlearts. This special event is also being held in conjunction with "Value Menu Monday." Entering its third season, Monday "home" games will feature a "Value Menu" as the 51s and Aramark have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item. So, mark the dates on your calendar! Local needlearts and baseball fans, guilds and groups will come by car, bus and train to be a part of this needlearts tradition - Stitch N' Pitch - the perfect double play!
