FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps never led in an 8-4 loss to the Great Lakes Loons, Wednesday at Parkview Field. Everett Williams had two hits and two RBIs.

The TinCaps' magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at four.

The Loons jumped out to a first-inning lead as Christian Lara smacked a leadoff triple to left- center and scored on a groundout by Rafael Ynoa.

Fort Wayne came back in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back walks, then a double-steal, then a groundout by Jedd Gyorko tied the game.

Chris Jacobs drilled a leadoff home run in the fifth to make it 2-1, but Fort Wayne again tied it in the bottom of the inning. After Jonathan Galvez reached on a leadoff infield single, Williams drilled an RBI triple to right-center. The TinCaps stranded Williams at third base and the game stayed tied at 2-2.

In the sixth, Brian Cavazos-Galvez blasted a two-run homer to left and Jaime Ortiz followed with a solo shot of his own to put the Loons ahead, 5-2. Daniel Meeley and Williams came up with RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-4 game.

The Loons struck again in the seventh, scoring three runs with the help of two Fort Wayne errors. The only hit came from Cavazos-Galvez, who doubled off the left-field wall.

Great Lakes RHPs Steve Smith and Luis Vasquez combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to close the game out.

Fort Wayne LHP Josh Spence (2-1) took the loss; Great Lakes RHP Josh Wall (8-6) picked up the victory.

Fort Wayne dipped to 36-22 in the half, 72-56 for the season. The Loons improved to 40-18 in the second half, 83-44 for the year.

The TinCaps open a three-game series Thursday against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Pedro Hernandez (4-3) draws the start against Great Lakes RHP Edwin Contreras (3-0).
