Sea Dogs Win 6th Straight

Portland, Maine- Ryan Lavarnway and Chih-Hsien Chiang each drove-in three runs as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Harrisburg Senators 9-1 Thursday night in front of a sold out crowd of 7,368 fans at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs (50-48) have now won a season high six straight games.

Nate Spears hit his team leading 11th home run of the season to snap a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Sea Dogs never looked back. The solo shot into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion gave the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead.

Lavarnway continued to make his mark on the Eastern League with a 3-for-5 performance with three RBI. Lavarnway had a pair of RBI singles and a RBI Double. Lavarnway singled in the fourth to score Yamaico Navarro to get the Sea Dogs on the board, to tie the game at one. He added another RBI single in the sixth to give the Sea Dogs a 3-1 lead, before he capped the night off with a RBI double in seventh.

Lavarnway has now hit safely in all seven Double-A games he has appeared hitting .444 (12-for-27) with 14 RBI. Lavarnway leads all Red Sox farmhands with 77 RBI on the season between Single-A Salem and Double-A Portland. He has five multi RBI games in his seven games with Portland.

Sea Dogs' starter Alex Wilson (3-2) had one of his finest Double-A outings lasting 5.2 innings allowing just one run on three hits to earn his third win of the season.

Harrisburg got out to the quick 1-0 start in the second inning when Ofilio Castro doubled home Devin Ivany.

Chih-Hsien Chiang also had a big night for the Sea Dogs collecting a RBI double in the sixth and his sixth home run of the year in the seventh, a two run shot off Joe Bisenius.

Senators starter John Lannan (1-3) suffers the loss tossing five innings yielding four runs (three earned) on nine hits.

The Sea Dogs and Senators continue the series Friday night at 7:00 Pm at Hadlock Field. Eastern League All-Star Stephen Fife (6-2, 3.58) gets the start for Portland. Washington Nationals pitcher and former Major League All-Star Jason Marquis will start for the Senators on a major league rehab assignment.

Notes: The six game winning streak for the Sea Dogs is the longest streak since the team won eight straight April 13-20, 2008.
