Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators fell to the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field in Portland on Thursday night, by a final score of 9-1. The Sea Dogs racked up 14 hits in the victory, and improved to 50-48 on the year. The Senators are now 49-50 with the loss.

John Lannan (1-3) took the loss for the Senators, as he gave up four runs-three earned-on nine hits in five innings. Alex Wilson earned the win for Portland, improving to 3-2 by allowing just one run in five and two-thirds innings.

The Senators did score first in the game, scoring their lone run in the second inning. All of their damage in that inning came after the first two outs, starting with a Devin Ivany single into left field. Ivany then scored on a double by Ofilio Castro, and the Senators led 1-0. The Sea Dogs scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and then three apiece in the sixth and seventh, to take an 8-1 lead through seven. They tacked on one more in the eighth, off of Sens reliever Jack Spradlin, to increase the lead to eight.

Ivany was the only Senator to record multiple hits in the ballgame, finishing with a single and a double. Castro, Danny Espinosa, Marvin Lowrance, and Tim Pahuta also had hits for the Sens in defeat. Nate Spears and Chih-Hsien Chiang both homered in the game for the Sea Dogs, while catcher Ryan Lavarnway racked up three hits.

The Sens get another crack at Portland on Friday night at 7 PM, and send RHP Jason Marquis to the hill for his first rehab start. Marquis has pitched this entire season with the Washington Nationals, and is an eleven-year major league veteran. He opposes RHP Stephen Fife (6-2, 3.58) of the Sea Dogs. Radio coverage of the game begins at 6:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
