Stinson Stops Skid with Stellar Start, B-Mets Drop Erie 3-1

Josh Stinson put an end to the B-Mets four-game losing streak by limiting Erie to a run over seven, strong innings in Binghamton's 3-1 win at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night. The B-Mets are now 10-0 in games started by the right-hander.

Binghamton (51-48) was held in check over the first three innings by right-hander Brayan Villarreal, who was making his Double-A debut. However, Sean Ratliff got the fourth off to a promising start with a double over the head of leftfielder Deik Scram. Josh Satin followed with a clean single to center, plating Ratliff with the game's first run.

Erie (39-60) issued a response in the sixth. Cesar Nicolas doubled off the wall in left with one out. Rawley Bishop joined him on base with a singled to left. With runners at the corners, Stinson faked to third and threw to first, but fired the ball down the right-field line, allowing Nicolas to score the tying run. The starter allowed the next two hitters to reach, loading the bases with one out. Stinson, however, got Kody Kaiser to strike out and Jeff Kunkel to fly out, ending the threat and maintaining the 1-1 deadlock.

The B-Mets broke on top in the seventh. Satin doubled to center off Villarreal starting off the stanza, which chased the right-hander from the game. Josh Rainwater replaced him and proceeded to give up an RBI double to Marshall Hubbard into the gap in right-center, pushing Binghamton ahead 2-1. Brahiam Maldonado put the finishing touch on the frame with an RBI triple to left-center, plating Hubbard to up the advantage to two.

Villarreal was charged with the loss despite tossing six-plus innings of two-run work - a quality start. He allowed just four hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Stinson exited to the win after the seventh inning, tying a season-long. He scattered eight hits and walked five, but only permitted one run.

Eric Niesen worked the eighth and John Lujan sewed up the win with a scoreless ninth, nailing down his third save in as many chances.

Ratliff and Satin both managed two-hit showings, accounting for over half of the B-Mets seven hits. They were outhit 9-7 by Erie.

The B-Mets square off with the SeaWolves in the second game of the four-game set Friday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon (1-2, 7.03) gets the call for Binghamton against RHP Thad Weber (6-10, 4.05) of Erie. The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
