Twilight Descends On Bowie
June 17, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Bowie Baysox News Release
Twilight descends on Bowie Monday, June 28, as the Baysox take on the Erie SeaWolves in a doubleheader at Prince George's Stadium starting at 5:35 p.m. The team celebrates its first ever Twilight Night with a fang giveaway, Team Edward and Team Jacob seating sections, Twilight trivia, a book giveaway, and a blood chugging competition. One lucky fan will also win a pair of tickets to see the third installment in the movie series, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" after it releases Tuesday, June 29.
When ordering tickets over the phone or at the Baysox box office, fans can show their support for one of Bella's love interests, and choose to sit in either the Team Edward or Team Jacob seating sections. To help fans cope with the realities of the vampire and shape-shifting wolf-themed evening, the Baysox will give the first 500 fans ages three and up a set of plastic fangs. Throughout the game, fans can display their fandom by participating in Twilight trivia and between-inning promotions include a blood-chugging competition. The blood will not be human, only animal meat is served at Prince George's Stadium.
In addition to the fangs, promotions and contests, the Baysox plan to give away a copy of the newest Twilight book, Breaking Dawn. One fan will also take home a gift certificate for two tickets to see the third installment in the movie series, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" at the Bow Tie Theater in the Annapolis Mall after the movie releases Tuesday, June 29 at 12:01 a.m.
Baysox Director of Marketing Brandan Kaiser highlights the parallels between the series of books and the Baysox. "The vampires in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series have special powers, and they match up well with our team's abilities," Kaiser said. "Edward Cullen can read people's minds, and it seems like our left fielder Tyler Henson can read pitchers' minds. He just knows what they are thinking and hits it. The big, burly Emmett Cullen is like our Joel Guzman, who no pitcher wants to face. Bella Swan is immune to powers, just like our entire pitching staff. They are immune to hitter's abilities. The similarities between our team and the characters are almost eerie."
As vampires, the Cullens sparkle when they are exposed to sunlight and can only play baseball in storms to mask the thunderous sounds of their hits. The Baysox may not sparkle when they take the field on Twilight Night, but their hits should sound just as mighty and the team will do its best to protect the fans it loves from the vicious attacks of the Erie SeaWolves.
