CLINTON, Iowa - The TinCaps fell behind, 9-0, on their way to an 11-4 loss to the Clinton LumberKings, Friday at Alliant Energy Field. Nate Freiman, Jeudy Valdez and James Darnell all cracked solo home runs.
Clinton opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd when Mario Martinez drove a leadoff home run to left.
In the 3rd, the LumberKings scored eight times to chase starting RHP John Hussey. Kalian Sams ripped a three-run double to left-center and Daniel Carroll had the other big blow, a three-run homer to left-center to make it 9-0.
The TinCaps fought back in the middle innings. Freiman blasted a solo homer in the top of the 4th to make it 9-1. Valdez and Darnell hit back-to-back solo shots in the 6th to make it 9-3.
In the 7th, Wande Olabisi slapped a two-out RBI single to cut it to 9-4. The TinCaps loaded the bases, but Clinton LHP Brian Moran entered from the bullpen to end the threat and retire the final seven TinCaps hitters.
Clinton RHP Erasmo Ramirez (5-2) was the winner, allowing three runs in six innings. Hussey (4- 3) lost his second straight start.
The TinCaps dropped to 30-32. The LumberKings improved to 35-26.
The TinCaps and LumberKings (Class-A Seattle Mariners) continue the series Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Fort Wayne LHP Nick Greenwood (3-3) goes to the mound against Clinton RHP John Housey (4-1).
