J.T. Wise doubled down the third base line in the top of the 10th inning bringing home Angelo Songco from first base with the go-ahead run, and the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Burlington Bees Thursday evening, 5-4.

Songco led off the 10th with a single against Ryan Dennick (1-2). After a strikeout of Brian Cavazos-Galvez and a fly out to left by Jerry Sands, Wise hit a sharp one-hopper down that hopped over the head of third baseman Fernando Cruz and rolled into the left field bullpen for a the game-winning double.

The Loons had three different two-run leads, including a 4-2 advantage in the bottom of the seventh when Wil Myers hit a two-run home run to tie the game at four. Myers homered twice in the losing effort in consecutive innings. Deivy Batista also homered for Burlington.

Cavazos-Galvez recorded four hits in the win for the Loons, including two doubles. Songco notched three hits, including a double, and scored thrice including the game winner. Christian Lara had two hits - a double and triple.

Justin Miller (4-0) fired 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Between the ninth and 10th innings he struck out four straight batters facing the third through sixth hitters in the order.

The Loons have now won a season-best five straight games and are a season-best 16 games over .500 (38-22). Combined with Lake County's Thursday loss to Clinton, the Loons are just one game behind the first-place Captains.

The Loons magic number is now five - with any combination of five wins or Lansing losses the Loons will clinch a playoff berth.

Great Lakes begins a three-game series against the Peoria Chiefs Friday night beginning at 8pm. Right-hander Allen Webster (6-4, 2.22 ERA) will start for the Loons against Peoria righty Trey McNutt (4-0, 1.81). The Chiefs are honoring legendary pitcher Greg Maddux by retiring his No. 31 jersey prior to the game. The game will be carried on ESPN 100.9-FM and online at Loons.com.
