Iglesias Powers Sea Dogs to 7-2 Win

Portland Maine- Stephen Fife (2-1) hurled six scoreless innings and Jose Iglesias drove in a career-high 5 runs as the Portland Sea Dogs (18-12) thrashed the Binghamton Mets (19-13), 7-2 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in front of 3,462.

Iglesias highlighted a four-run first inning with a base-clearing triple off losing pitcher Scott Shaw (4-1) in the first inning, and delivered a 2-run single in the fifth. The Portland shortstop finished with three hits, improving his team-leading average to .326.

Fife scattered six hits, and finished with a season-high six strikeouts. The righty did not issue a walk and held the B-Mets 0-for-6 with runners-in-scoring position. He lowered his ERA to 3.26.

Anthony Rizzo drove in the games first run with a sac-fly to center field in his first Double-A at-bat. The 20-year-old first baseman went 1-for-2 in his Portland debut, reaching base three times on a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Shaw was touched for eight hits and seven runs over 4.1 IP to suffer his first loss of the season for the Mets.

Ryan Kalish hit the teams first homer in eight days, crushing a lead-off blast off an inflatable advertisement on top of the batting tunnel in right-center field.

Eammon Portice pitched two innings surrendering two runs on one hit. Jason Rice pitched a scoreless ninth.

Sea Dogs Manager Arnie Beyeler picked-up his 230th Sea Dogs victory surpassing Carlos Tosca for most wins in franchise history. Tosca managed the Sea Dogs from 1994 through 1996. Beyeler has skippered the Sea Dogs since 2007.

Chih-Hsien Chiang extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Portland Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets will play the rubber game of the series Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. 2009 Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year Felix Doubront (2-0, 3.30) takes the mound for the Sea Dogs. Mike Antonini (3-2, 3.97) gets the nod for Binghamton.
