Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve dropped a rain-shortened game to the Harrisburg Senators, 3-2, on Tuesday morning at Blair County Ballpark. A two-run home run by the Senators Brad Coon in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference maker in the game.

The rain began to fall in the third inning with the Senators up one after they plated a run in the second. Chris Marrero scored on a double-play groundout by Ofilio Castro in the second to secure the, 1-0, lead.

Knowing that more unpleasant weather was expected, Altoona battled back to tie up the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth when Miles Durham doubled in Matt Hague. Durham moved to third on a groundout by Alex Presley but would advance no more as Shelby Ford grounded out to end the inning. Presley finished the game 0-for-2, which snaps his 24-game consecutive games on base streak.

Altoona starter Derek Hankins (2-1) came out in the rainy and snowy conditions to face the Senators in the top of the fifth and issued a leadoff walk to Sean Rooney to put the go-ahead run on first. Hankins battled back to get the next two batters but then issued the home run to Coon, which snuck down the right-field line and gave Harrisburg the lead.

Trying to get an official game in, play continued in the bottom of the fifth and Altoona almost tied the game for a second time. Kris Watts was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then moved to third when Jim Negrych, who was pinch hitting for Hankins, doubled to right field. With no one out, Chase d'Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly to bring Watts in and move Negrych to third.

Harrisburg starter Tom Milone (3-1) then induced a groundout from Gorkys Hernandez and a lineout from Jordy Mercer to end the fifth and subsequently end the game. The umpires immediately sent the game into a rain delay following the fifth inning.

Milone allowed the two runs on three hits in five innings while Hankins permitted the three runs (two earned) on three hits in his five innings for Altoona.

With the series tied at a game apiece, Altoona (20-11) and Harrisburg (13-19) will meet in the rubber match of the series on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. RHP Erik Arnesen (0-2, 3.04) will take the ball for Harrisburg while Justin Wilson (1-2, 4.43), who pitched his best game of the season in his last start against Erie, starts for Altoona.

It is once again a School Kids Day and a Second and Third Shift workers game at BCB. Second and third shift workers can receive $1 off Grandstand and UPMC Health Plan Outfield Reserve tickets to the contest. Radio coverage begins at 10 a.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network.
