Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Shawn Bowman launched a game-winning solo home run in the top of the twelfth inning, Adrian Martin tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats clawed past the R-Phils 3-2 in twelve innings on Education Day at FirstEnergy Stadium Tuesday in front of 7,715 fans.

Martin (1-1, 2.95), who entered the game in the tenth inning, allowed just one hit over his three shutout frames, en-route to his first win of the season. The 23-year-old reliever walked three and fanned two, and was helped out by Bowman, who came up with a chance to win the game in the twelfth.

Originally selected by the New York Mets in the 2002 First-Year-Player Draft, Bowman stepped to the plate to get things started in the twelfth inning. With R-Phils' reliever Sergio Escalona (0-3, 2.92) on the hill, Bowman ripped a long home run over the left field fence to put his team up 3-2. Escalona, who was in his second inning of relief, was saddled with his third loss of 2010. His only mistake of the afternoon was the home run to Bowman, which ended up as the game-winner.

The loss for the R-Phils takes away from the solid start by RHP Vance Worley, who was impressive over seven innings. Worley, a native of Sacramento, allowed just two runs on six hits, but left the game when it was tied 2-2. The 22-year-old has now not earned a decision over his last four games, but has been solid. He's now gone 0-0 with a 3.75 ERA over those four games (24 innings), fanning 24 and walking nine.

Domonic Brown ignited the offense early, as he roped a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, which gave the R-Phils the 1-0 lead. Brown, who entered play fourth in the Eastern League in batting with .333, finished the contest 1-3 with the homer - his sixth of the season. He's now in the top five in the Eastern league in both batting average and home runs.

On Wednesday in the finale, the R-Phils will send RHP Phillippe Aumont (1-2, 6.08) to the hill as the R-Phils look to take the series from the Fisher Cats. Aumont, 21, has struggled during his two starts in May, posting a 0-1 mark with an 18.00 ERA (5 IP, 10 ER, 13 BB). Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, Aumont was solid in the month of April when he went 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA. He looks to right the ship Wednesday.

The Fisher Cats will send RHP Zach Stewart (2-1, 6.94) to the hill in Wednesday's finale. Stewart, 23, looks to rebound after a tough outing against Binghamton. The Texas native allowed five runs on five hits over just three innings of work on May 7.

Join Brian Seltzer, who will have the call for the R-Phils pre-game show on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV and readingphillies.com beginning at 10:35 a.m.
