Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

BOWIE, MD - The Bowie Baysox held off the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 6-5, in game two of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Prince George's Stadium.

A first-inning error on Bowie shortstop Pedro Florimon opened the door for Richmond to grab the early advantage. With two outs, Thomas Neal reached on that error giving Roger Kieschnick the chance to bat. He delivered an opposite-field two-run homer to left-center field giving Richmond a 2-0 lead. The runs charged to Bowie starter Chorye Spoone were unearned.

Bowie shaved a run off the Richmond lead in the second when Joel Guzman doubled on one-hop off the wall in center field. He advanced to third on a Clayton Tanner wild pitch and scored on a ground-out from Robbie Widlansky to cut the lead to one, 2-1.

The Squirrels immediately got the run back in the third when Nick Noonan and Darren Ford recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Spoone recovered to strike out Brandon Crawford, but Neal lined a sacrifice-fly to right-center field to score Noonan and rebuild the two-run lead, 3-1.

The lead was short-lived, as Bowie staged a prolonged two-out rally in the bottom of the inning. Paco Figueroa sparked the uprising with a two-out bunt-single. Ryan Adams recorded a single behind him and Tyler Henson ripped a run-scoring single through the left-side of the infield to plate Figueroa. Guzman then cracked his second double of the ballgame, bringing home both runners with a shot down the third-base line. Brandon Waring followed with a double to right-center field, bringing home the fourth run of the inning, and giving Bowie a 5-3 advantage.

Tanner (2-3) survived the third, but departed after allowing two men to reach in the fourth. He recorded his shortest outing of the season, lasting 3 1/3 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. He endured his third loss of the season.

The Squirrels got a run back against Spoone prior to his exit in the fifth inning. Ford singled to start the inning and Crawford walked to push him into scoring position. Kieschnick added a third RBI with a single to score him through the right-side of the infield to make it a 5-4 Bowie lead.

Spoone left following the fifth, allowing four runs - two earned - on five hits. He walked three and struck out four as he snapped a personal four-game losing streak with the win, his second of the season.

Bowie tacked that run back on against Felix Romero in the fifth, when Henson doubled to start the inning and came around a batter later on a sacrifice-fly from Waring.

Richmond then replaced that run with one of their own in the seventh against reliever Eduardo Gamboa. Juan Ciriaco doubled with two outs and scored on an error on the shortstop Florimon on a ground-ball from Conor Gillaspie. The Baysox commited three errors in the inning as the Squirrels pulled back within a run at 6-5.

Pedro Beato held the Squirrels at bay for the final two innings as he preserved the victory and earned his first save of the season.

The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for 11:05 am on Wednesday morning at Prince George's Stadium. RHP Daryl Maday (5-0,1.78) will make the start for the Flying Squirrels against RHP Ryohei Tanaka (2-3, 3.63) for the Baysox.
