Top Twins Pitching Prospect Coming To New Britain
May 11, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced today that their parent club - the Minnesota Twins - has assigned one of that organization's top pitching Prospects to the Connecticut-based Eastern League club.
RHP Kyle Gibson, the 22-year-old University of Missouri product who Minnesota selected with its 1st Round pick in the 2009 Draft, will join the Rock Cats tomorrow from Ft. Myers in the Single-A, Florida State League. The 6'6"/208-pound hurler out of Greenfield, IN is listed in Baseball America's 2010 Prospect Handbook as the highest rated Pitching Prospect in the entire Twins organization. Gibson is said to possess a full array of power and off-speed pitches that he commands for strikes. Prior to today's promotion, Gibson made seven starting appearances for Ft. Myers this season and posted a 4-1 record with a team-leading 1.87 ERA. He was named the Florida State League's Pitcher of the Week for his complete game, 1-Hit outing against Jupiter on May 2 when he faced the minimum 27 batters. His final outing for the Miracle was just last night when he faced Tampa and emerged, after 6 2/3 innings, with 8 Strike Outs and a 4-1 victory. He will join the Rock Cats in time for their scheduled 10:35 AM game against visiting Trenton tomorrow morning at New Britain Stadium.
In another move impacting New Britain, RHP Loek Van Mil has been transferred from the Rock Cats' roster - where he has been listed on the DL with shin splints since 2010's Opening Day - to active status on the Ft. Myers roster. The 25-year-old native of Oss, Netherlands - the tallest player in professional baseball at 7'1" - will work out of the Miracle bullpen with an eye toward rejoining the Rock Cats at a later date. The 232-pounder was very effective out of the New Britain bullpen last year when the 2009 Rock Cats charged into the Eastern League Playoffs.
