Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today a pair of promotions for younger fans when the team takes on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Sunday, May 23, at 2:05 p.m. WordGirl, the star of Emmy© award-winning animated PBS KIDS GO! series "WordGirl" will make a special appearance at Prince George's Stadium to meet fans and pose for pictures, courtesy of Maryland Public Television. In addition to the WordGirl appearance, the Baysox will give the first 1,000 fans ages three to 12 a free Webkinz© Husky Dog Toy.
"WordGirl" chronicles the adventures of Becky Botsford, a mild-mannered fifth grader who transforms into WordGirl - caped crusader and definition dynamo! When there is trouble in The City, this super heroine-in-disguise uses vocabulary to defeat outlaws bent on "word" domination. With the help of her faithful monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, WordGirl spends each episode defeating a quirky cast of villains - from Dr. Two-Brains to The Butcher - with her power punches and dictionary strength. The show is designed to enrich children's vocabulary, instill a love of language and foster better reading comprehension. To extend the show's vocabulary-building, the WordGirl website (www.pbskidsgo.org/wordgirl) features videos and games. WordGirl airs on PBS KIDS GO!, check local listings for times.
In addition to meeting WordGirl at the game, young Baysox fans receive a FREE Webkinz toy at the game. The first 1,000 fans ages three to 12 through the stadium gates receive an adorable Webkinz Husky Dog plush pet toy!
Each pet comes with a unique secret code that allows fans to play with a virtual version of their pet in Webkinz World at www.webkinz.com. Fans can name their pet, design its own digital room, play games in the online arcade and answer quizzes!
Think Outside The Box with the Baysox in 2010. The Baysox 18th season as the class Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles is underway at Prince George's Stadium.
