Thunder Hang On For 2-1 Win

New Britain,CT- Jeremy Bleich picked up his second win of the season, as the Thunder were able to hold on and win their sixth straight, defeating the Rock Cats 2-1 at New Britain Stadium on Tuesday night. With the win, the Thunder improve to 17-15 on the year.

Bleich (2-2), who struggled in his last two starts entering the game, allowed only three hits in 6.1 innings of work. He walked two batters and struck out five to pick up his first win since April 10.

Two errors by New Britain shortstop Estarlin de los Santos in the second inning allowed Trenton to take an early 1-0 lead. Austin Romine reached second base on a throwing error committed by de los Santos, and then scored on a ground ball that went through the legs of the Rock Cats shortstop.

Marcos Vechionacci hit a solo home run to center field off RHP Carlos Gutierrez (1-1) in the third inning to put the Thunder ahead 2-1.

In the seventh inning, the Rock Cats plated their first run of the game, as Rene Tosoni scored on a ground out by Joe Benson. Tosoni led off the inning with a double off Bleich. Cory Arbiso came on in relief and was perfect in 1.2 innings pitched. Grant Duff came on in the ninth and allowed one hit before getting out Chris Parmelee for the final out of the game.

Austin Krum picked up two more hits tonight, and is now 5-for-9 in the series.

The Thunder conclude the series with the Rock Cats on Wednesday morning with a 10:35 AM start. RHP David Phelps starts for the Thunder, and New Britain counters with LHP Tyler Robertson.
