Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Reading, PA) - A three-run second inning by the Reading Phillies gave starting pitcher Michael Cisco plenty of offense to work with. Cisco held the Portland Sea Dogs to one run on five hits in six innings of work, as the Phillies picked up a 4-1 win at FirstEnergy Stadium.
For the first time in the series, it was Reading opening the scoring, as the home team put three runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Those runs came on five hits, with the biggest hit being a two-run single by Mike Spidale. After driving in three runs on Friday, Spidale now has five RBI in the series. The Phillies added to their lead in the third, as Brandon Pinckney doubled home Kevin Mahar.
Reading starter, Michael Cisco, kept the Sea Dogs' hitters at bay for the first four innings, until Portland got on the board in the fifth. Jose Iglesias led off the frame with a double to left, moved to third base on a wild pitch, and made it all the way around, when Jason Place grounded out to third.
Cisco lasted one more inning, finishing his night with a line of six innings, five hits, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts. For that effort, he picked up the win. Kyle Weiland made his Double-A debut on the mound for the Sea Dogs, going five innings, allowing nine hits and four runs, while striking out two.
Three Reading relievers limited Portland to two hits over the final three innings, locking up the 4-1 win for the Phillies.
Ryne Lawson made his first appearance out of the bullpen for the Sea Dogs, tossing three scoreless frames.
The Sea Dogs and Phillies conclude their four-game series at 1:05 on Sunday. Stephen Fife will make his Double-A debut for Portland, going up against Reading's Yohan Flande.
